Summer Nostalgia
I think of my photographs as memory fragments - distorted interpretations of reality. The Australian landscape inspires me, in particular, the Outback, which reminds me of summer holidays, spent visiting my grandparents in the American Southwest. As a recent citizen of Australia, I am forging new connections to place and space. I long to be a part of the Australian landscape, yet hold onto the memories that have shaped my sense of self.
My current work explores the genre of Glitch Art made popular in the 1990s when I was a teenager first exploring creative expression with photography. A glitch is the unexpected result of a malfunction. With Summer Nostalgia, I wish to blur the boundaries of image making and challenge the role memory, and media play in shaping our identities and perceptions of reality.
